With very few exceptions, each individual state regulates cooperatives. In addition, a cooperative is likely to be regulated by state laws and rules that do not fall under the cooperative statute(s) but rather the sector in which the cooperative does business. For example, mutual insurance companies must also adhere to insurance statutes, and credit unions follow credit union-specific statues.
Consult your respective state’s statutes for proper reference.
