The 2013 Employment Law Workshops are packed with information and insight
into today’s constantly changing employment law. In today’s business climate,
one mistake is too many. The areas where you need to be legally up-to-date are
endless. You need to constantly broaden your skills and knowledge. The highly
qualifi ed instructors for these workshops will provide you with an overview of the
most pressing issues. The workshop will provide you with case studies and necessary
information related to diffi cult legal challenges you could potentially face.
Key Topics:
Legal Update
Review of the most significant employment legislation, cases and hot topics to
expect and be prepared for:
• Proposed changes to Wisconsin Unemployment Compensation Rules
• The single most important Supreme Court case
• Trends in social networking, personal liability, FMLA, and expansions in
EEO law
Create Effective Respectful Workplace and Discrimination Policy and
Procedure: Beyond the Basics
Policies on discrimination, harassment, and bullying are legally required and crucial
to solving problems. Those same policies also get cooperatives sued due to poor
design or improper enforcement. Learn the important do’s and especially the
don’ts for policies which prevent liability rather than create liability.
The Ten Most Common Documentation Errors
Documentation is crucial in employment issues. Poor, improper or missing
documentation creates liability. However, if you avoid these ten errors, you can
sleep at night knowing you have avoided liability and have proper, legally-valid
documentation.
Employment Records and How to Keep Them
Cooperatives have ongoing questions about what employment records are
required to be retained and for how long. However, this is only the start of the
issues. The requirements and liabilities go beyond these simple issues. How do
you keep records? Who has access? Why are you in trouble if you only follow the
legal time requirements? What creates “problem records” you did not even know
you had? What records should you NOT create? How do the courts view your
record retention? |
