On September 10, Cooperative Network testified before the Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection in support of an emergency rule relating to milk and a rule relating to grain contractors.
At this year’s Co-op Day at the Capitol, Cooperative Network members had advocated with lawmakers to advance legislation that would allow for milk contractors to defer payments to producers if the producer had made the request. The legislation was signed into law by Gov. Walker and it is now DATCP has written the rule to implement what was passed by the legislature.
The emergency rule provides the details for deferred payment contracts in the dairy industry. In addition, Cooperative Network also supported a permanent rule for an assessment exemption for grain warehouse keepers.
