Cooperative Network testifies in support of legislation to constitutionally dedicate additional funding to roads and bridges

The House Transportation Finance Committee acted favorably on a bill last week intended to infuse more funding into the statewide road and bridge system. Cooperative Network testified in support of H.F. 4437, authored by House Transportation Finance Committee Chair Paul Torkelson (R – Hanska). The legislation would allow Minnesotans the chance to ensure funding is used for highway purposes by voting this fall in support of a constitutional amendment to dedicate all sales tax on auto part purchases and repairs to road and bridge funding. Passage of legislation this year would allow voters to decide this fall if an additional $100 million per year is dedicated to the road and bridge system. Cooperative Network belongs to a coalition representing agriculture, business, and labor across Minnesota who supports the legislation known as Vote Yes 4 Roads. On April 21, an editorial counterpoint was featured in the Minneapolis Star Tribune that was written by several organizations supportive of the initiative, including Cooperative Network. Earlier this session, Cooperative Network testified in support of the companion bill in the Senate authored by Senate Transportation Committee Chairman Scott Newman (R – Hutchinson).
