Donate Unclaimed Patronage and Unclaimed Capital Credits:

Under both Minnesota state cooperative statutes, cooperatives can take advantage of a unique provision, referred to as the alternative disbursement procedure that allows cooperatives to distribute unclaimed patronage dividends and capital credits to qualifying tax-exempt entities.

Capital credits and patronage dividend checks that remain unclaimed for seven years after first being made available to their owner are considered abandoned property provided proper notice of availability has been given. In order to disburse unclaimed capital credits and patronage dividends to a qualifying tax-exempt organization, a cooperative is required to send a due diligence letter to the last known address, or if the address is unknown, then the notice must be published in the official publication of the cooperative. For more information, contact us.

Please consider putting your cooperative’s unclaimed property toward a great cause in a donation to the Minnesota Cooperative Education Foundation!

MCEF is a 501(c)3 nonprofit and all contributions are tax deductible. Funds are in no way used for lobbying or political purposes.
